- Author: Douglas Kelly (b. 1943)
- Life: Born in Lumberton, North Carolina, the son of an active military father who was in France and Germany during the war. He was an only child, and spent most of his early years studying on the family farm in Carthage, North Carolina. After high school, he went to the University of North Carolina, receiving a BA in Classics in 1965. During his time at University, he studied Latin, Greek, Hebrew, German, French and Gaelic. Later, he studied at Union Theological Seminary, and after completion of his M. Div. in 1968, he was awarded a one year academic scholarship from the St. Andrews Society of New York to pursue further theological studies at Edinburgh University from 1968 to 1969. Kelly took his first call to be minister of First Presbyterian Church in Dillon, South Carolina where he preached from 1973 to 1981. From the Carolinas he and his wife and then four children transitioned to Northern California where he had received funding for two years of translation work on John Calvin's Sermons on Second Samuel which he later published with Banner of Truth.
